Mr. Willie Vukela is the Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), where he also serves as the Deputy Director-General for Government Services Access and Improvement.
With over 28 years of experience in public service, including 19 years in Senior Management Services (SMS), Mr. Vukela possesses extensive knowledge and expertise in public administration and management. His career has primarily focused on the ICT sector, particularly in policy development and regulatory regime. He began his government career as an Administrative Clerk in 1997 and has worked up to his current position.
Mr. Vukela holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Master in Multidisciplinary Human Rights Law from the University of Pretoria and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from MANCOSA. He also earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of the North (Turfloop), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Training & Development from the University of the North (Turfloop), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Studies from MANCOSA, and a Diploma in Negotiation from the International Negotiation Academy.
Dedicated to continuous improvement, Mr. Vukela has completed various academic programs at institutions such as Wits University, the University of Cape Town, and the University of Pretoria, focusing on Senior Leadership and Management, Performance Budgeting, Project Costing, and Financial Management.
Due to his in-depth understanding of governance matters, he was appointed as a Board Member of the South African Post Office Stamp Advisory Committee on behalf of the Minister of Communications. In 2022, he also became a Board Member for the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) on behalf of the Minister for the Public Service and Administration. Following the conclusion of the Board's term in January 2025, he was recently re-appointed to serve on the SITA Interim Board.
