The government is renewing its commitment to combat corruption, bribery, and nepotism, emphasizing transparency and accountability as core principles of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
This announcement was made by Public Service and Administration Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi during a media briefing in Pretoria, where he unveiled the Integrated Public Service Month (IPSM) programme for this year.
Minister Inkosi Buthelezi stated, “We will intensify our efforts to address corruption, bribery, and nepotism while strengthening our institutions and upholding our commitment to transparency and accountability.”
He highlighted the government’s dedication to ethics management, including the implementation of lifestyle audits for senior management to ensure accountability. Inkosi Buthelezi also thanked public servants who courageously report corruption and misconduct, assuring them of protection as they face threats to their integrity.
September is recognized as Public Service Month in South Africa, a key event in the national calendar. This year’s theme, “A Government That Works for You” (#GovThatWorks4You), reflects the 7th Administration’s commitment to effective service delivery and the establishment of a capable, ethical, and developmental state.
According to Minister Inkosi Buthelezi, IPSM serves as a platform for inter-departmental policy learning and public engagement. Activities will take place from September 5 to October 7, commencing in the Northern Cape. This year’s programme aims to transform Public Service Month from a month-long event into a year-round initiative.
Minister Inkosi Buthelezi urged the over 1.3 million public servants to view the theme as a serious commitment to every citizen, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that good governance has a tangible impact on daily lives.
