In a significant ceremony marking a key moment in the history of Mbongombongweni and the broader Zulu nation, Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, MP, will be officially installed as the Inkosi of the Buthelezi Clan on Friday, 26 July 2024 at 10:00 at the Embongombongweni Royal Residence.

Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, who also serves as the Minister for Public Service and Administration, having been appointed to this position by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 30 June 2024, will be formally recognised as the leader of the Buthelezi Clan during the ceremony presided over by His Majesty, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

The event is organised by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA). This event holds immense importance as it marks a significant chapter in the legacy of the Mbongombongweni community and the Zulu people.

The ceremony celebrates the continuation of a treasured traditional leadership role and underscores the Minister’s unwavering commitment to upholding and honouring his ancestral lineage. This ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of the rich tapestry of cultural identity that weaves through the fabric of our nation, embracing the time-honoured customs and rituals that embody the essence of Zulu heritage.

The spokesperson for the Minister, Mr. Yaseen Carelse, commented that the role of Inkosi, embedded in the traditions and customs of the Zulu people, exemplifies the principles of service, stewardship, and the welfare of the community. He said similarly, “in the realm of public service leadership, there exists a profound responsibility to serve the interests of the public, to champion inclusivity, and to strive for the betterment of society”.
