Pretoria – The Director-General, Ms. Yoliswa Makhasi, and senior management of the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) on Friday, convened a strategic meeting with the United Nations country office at the Batho Pele House. The primary objective of this high-level engagement was to review the progress of the UN programmes focused on Effective, Efficient, and Transformative Governance and their adoption within South Africa.
During the meeting, Ms. Makhasi, who serves as the Country Chair for Result Group 3 on Effective, Efficient, and Transformative Governance, provided a comprehensive overview of the policy measures implemented by the DPSA to institutionalize the framework for professionalizing the Public Service. Furthermore, she emphasized the DPSA’s strong dedication to cultivating and empowering the youth to become the future leaders of the public sector through the successful Emerging Leadership in The Public Service Program. This program has already seen over 120 public servants graduate after undergoing a rigorous coaching and mentoring journey in its first cohort.
Dr. Salomon Hoogenraad-Vermaak, representing The Public Administration Ethics Integrity and Disciplinary Technical Assistance Unit, shared valuable insights into the proactive measures taken by the DPSA to combat corruption within government institutions, including the effective implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption.
The meeting also featured in-depth discussions on critical topics such as Government Priorities and UN Areas of Support, culminating in a collaborative exploration of Shared Priorities for a Joint Work Plan in 2024.
“This high-profile engagement between the DPSA and the UN country office holds immense significance as it underscores the commitment of both entities to advancing good governance, ethical leadership, and sustainable development in South Africa”, said Ms. Makhasi.
“The collaboration sets the stage for a synergistic approach to addressing key challenges and seizing opportunities for progress in the public service arena, ultimately benefiting the nation as a whole,” she added.
