Public Service and Administration Deputy Minister, Dr Chana Pilane Majake will host a Breakfast Dialogue as part of commemorating Women’s Month in Pretoria, tomorrow, Friday 18, 2023.
The Breakfast Dialogue which will be used to reaffirm the power of women to work together to bring fundamental change in the society will be held under the theme: “Women on Whose Shoulders We Stand.”
On 9 August, South African’s celebrated and commemorated the struggle of women for a free, non-racial, and non-sexist country.
The day marked the 67th anniversary of the historic Women’s March to the Union Buildings on August 9, which became a turning point in the history of the country and the role of women in the struggle for freedom and society at large.
Tomorrow’s event will focus on honouring the life and activism of one of the leaders and organisers of the iconic 1956 Women’s Anti-Pass March, Ms Bertha Gxowa.
The founding member of the Federation of South African Women (FEDSAW) in 1954, which organised the historic women’s march against pass laws in 1956, travelled across the country with Helen Joseph, Robert Resha and Norman Levy where they collected 20 000 petitions that were to be delivered to the Union Buildings during the march.
This Breakfast Dialogue will also provide a platform for engaging discussions on the significance of the Women’s March, the progress made in advancing women’s rights, and the challenges that still faced by women in the country.
Speakers and participants at the event will share their insights, experiences, and ideas, highlighting the contributions of women in shaping a more inclusive and equitable society.
