The government will use Chris Baragwanath Hospital as a shining example to prove that the healthcare sector in the country is providing best and quality services to South Africans.
Public Service and Administration Minister, Mr Senzo Mchunu made the announcement during his visit to the world’s 3rd biggest hospital situated in Diepkloof, Soweto to officially hand over Standing Boxes for Children with Cerebral Palsy recently.
“We will use Baragwanath Hospital as an example to prove that the South African healthcare industry really provides the best services.
“We are sincerely grateful for the work that you do, be strong, be inspired and know that as a government we appreciate your work. You have gone beyond what we had ordinarily expected,” he said.
In 2018, the Hospital was the overall winner of the Standing Box Project at the annual Centre for Public Sector Innovation (CPSI) Pubic Sector Innovation Awards.
The Physiotherapists at the hospital came up with the idea of inventing the boxes, which were then manufactured by the Non-Governmental Organisation called Sukumani Dream, which employs people with disabilities.
Speaking at the event, CPSI Executive Director, Ms Lakela Kaunda, said the CPSI’s awards and Conference scheduled for November 28-29 where public servants’ innovative ways of delivering services will be awarded.
The visit to the hospital coincides with the commemoration of the annual National Disability Rights Awareness Month, which runs from 3 November to 3 December this year.
