The handing over of medical equipment’s to Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) by Public Service and Administration Minister, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi demonstrate government’s commitment to ensure that the country has the best healthcare system.
Minister Buthelezi recently visited Groote Schuur Hospital where he officially handed over essential medical equipment with a view to enhance maternal healthcare.
“Together, we are building a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system that prioritizes the needs of all South Africans. This handover is a testament to our collective efforts to ensure that everyone receives the care they deserve. These enhancements will significantly reduce patient waiting times and improve the quality of care provided at the hospital,” he said.
16 Days of Activism Campaign
The handing over aligns with the annual 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children campaign which started on November 25 to December 10.
This year’s activation is being held under the theme “30 Years of advancing collective action to end violence against women and children’’, with the sub-theme for the campaign being “Harnessing technology and innovation to combat Gender-Based Violence and accelerate a gender inclusive digital economy”.
The Groote Schuur Hospital’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit serves as a critical referral centre for high-risk pregnancies, addressing a high rate of complications and adverse outcomes. As a government-funded teaching hospital, GSH is equipped with highly experienced staff and provides vital services to the community.
Minister said: “the project represents our commitment to improving health for women and children in South Africa. The donated equipment will enhance our capacity to provide safe effective care for mothers and their newborns.”
The items donated by the GEMS CSI programme include labour ward mobile ultrasound machine, five point of care creatinine meters, five neonatal resuscitators and high-frequency items for newborn incubators including sheets, blankets, pillows and towels.
