The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Ms Noxolo Kiviet, made an unannounced visit to the Home Affairs branch in Cape Town on 15 Monday, May 2023 as part of the build-up to her budget vote that is taking place tomorrow at 14:00.
The Minister said the Home Affairs department plays a vital role in producing IDs, birth certificates, and other important documents and that she visited the branch to inspect service delivery firsthand.
During the visit, the District Manager, Ms Bongiwe Sakawuli, who received the Minister, made a briefing to the Minister on the branch’s operations and needs. The Minister committed that her Ministry will work with Home Affairs to ensure that South Africans are served efficiently and timeously.
The Minister said visiting service delivery points is an important oversight role for government leaders, and that her visit highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring efficient and effective delivery of public services in line with Batho Pele principles.
These visits come ahead of the Minister’s budget vote speech in parliament on Tuesday, May 16, where she will outline the Ministry’s plans to improve public service delivery in South Africa.
“The Ministry of Public Service and Administration remains committed to delivering world-class public services to all South Africans,” the Minister said.
The visit comes a day after Minister Kiviet visited the Thuthuzela Care Center in Worcester on Sunday.
