This weekend, members of the Department of Public Service and Administration (Dpsa) are gearing up to participate in the prestigious Comrades Marathon, a grueling ultramarathon that stretches approximately 90 kilometers between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. This iconic race, first held in 1921, celebrates endurance and camaraderie among runners from all walks of life.
The Dpsa team features dedicated athletes: Mr. John Mkhatshwa, Tshepo Sepato, Manaseh Tshiguvho, Lawrence Tsipane, Thabang Maraletse, and Solomon (Solly) Motsei. Ms. Amanda Hagget, Chairperson of the Athletics Committee at DPSA, highlighted Mr. Mkhatshwa’s remarkable achievement as he strives for his double green number at the Comrades Marathon this Sunday. “Having completed 19 Comrades Marathons since his first in 2002, he hopes to earn his 20th medal in 2025.
“As the DPSA Athletics Team, we wish Mr Khatswha all the best on this remarkable journey!” she said.
As they prepare to tackle this challenging course, they embody the spirit of resilience and teamwork that the Comrades Marathon promotes.
Mr Willie Vukela, Acting Director General of the Dpsa, expressed his support for the participants, wishing them well in their journey and race. “We are proud of our team members who are taking on this extraordinary challenge. Their commitment not only showcases their personal dedication but also reflects the values of perseverance and excellence that we uphold in the public service. We encourage them to push their limits and enjoy the experience.”
As the Dpsa team sets off for KwaZulu-Natal, they carry with them the hopes and encouragement of their colleagues, ready to make their mark in this historic event. The Comrades Marathon is not just a race; it is a celebration of the human spirit, and our team is prepared to embrace every moment of this incredible journey.
