Mr Willie Vukela, Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), met with the President and Executive Director of the South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM), Professors Kgothatso Shai and John Molepo. The meeting was joined by the Executive Dean of Tshwane University of Technology and former President of SAAPAM Professor Mashupye Maseremule, and officials from the DPSA.

The engagement is part of the roadshows that the Acting DG has initiated to meet critical stakeholders in the space of public administration, governance and service delivery and comes at the recent official recognition of SAAPAM as a professional body by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

The leaders of the two institutions discussed the upcoming SAAPAM conference, the G20 Outreach and the broader DPSA-SAAPAM partnership going forward, especially on the public sector reforms to support professionalisation of the Public Service.

Further discussions included the partnership with AAPAM and the Thabo Mbeki African School of Public and International Affairs of the University of South Africa (UNISA) on the 9th Edition Research Seminar under the theme “State resilience to shocks and disasters: The role of higher education and non-governmental organisations in strengthening state institutions”.

Mr Vukela emphasized the need for continued partnerships and highlighted the importance of ensuring that new Public Sector research outcomes and developments are publicised to inform public discourse and new policies.
