After yesterday’s successful launch of the Integrated Public Service Month (IPSM) in East London, in the Eastern Cape province, public servants and senior managers from across the three spheres of Government visited the Cecilia Makiwane Hospital and the East London Correctional Centre for Females to learn and share service delivery experiences.

These visits aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among public servants to improve service delivery in their respective departments. During the visits, participants had the opportunity to observe best practices and innovative approaches to service delivery, which they can now apply in their work.

Cecilia Makiwane Hospital and the East London Correctional Centre for Females were particularly chosen as post-IPSM launch site visits due to their history of working together, despite their seemingly differing service delivery mandates, such as the use of soon-to-be-released inmates to assist with some maintenance work at the hospital.

Matrons and nurses were also among the visitors at the East London Correctional Centre for Females, where they learned firsthand how the correctional facility handled cases of inmates imprisoned while they were pregnant or had babies at the time of their arrests. Through this interaction, it is hoped that the matrons and nurses from Cecilia Makiwane Hospital will provide much-needed advice on inmates’ pre and post-natal care.

In her remarks closing the post-launch IPSM activities, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of the Public Service and Administration, Ms Bukiwe Sanqqu, conveyed Minister Noxolo Kiviet’s gratitude for the collaborative way in which the three levels of Government ensured the success of the launch of the IPSM on 31 August 2023, and the post-launch activities.
