The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) Athletics Club proudly celebrated its members’ successful participation in the 2026 Comrades Marathon, held on Sunday, 14 June 2026, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Taking on one of the world’s most demanding ultramarathons, five members of the Club demonstrated resilience, discipline and determination as they completed the iconic 2026 Up Run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Congratulations to Solomon Motsei, Manaseh Tshiguvho, Lawrance Tsipane, Tshepo Sepato, and Thabang Mareletse on this remarkable achievement.

The Up Run is renowned for its relentless climbs, with runners facing the legendary “Big Five” hills — Cowies Hill, Fields Hill, Botha’s Hill, Inchanga and Polly Shorts. Conquering these challenging ascents requires months of dedicated preparation, mental fortitude and unwavering commitment, qualities that the DPSA Athletics Club members displayed throughout the race.

The Comrades Marathon, covering approximately 90 kilometres between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, is widely regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious ultramarathons in the world. Completing the race is an achievement that reflects not only physical endurance but also perseverance and determination.

The DPSA Athletics Club continues to promote health, wellness, and camaraderie among employees, encouraging officials to lead active lifestyles and fostering teamwork beyond the workplace. The successful completion of the Comrades Marathon by the Club members embodies these values and serves as an inspiration to colleagues across the Department.

The Department congratulates the runners on proudly representing Team DPSA on one of the country’s biggest sporting stages. Their achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished through commitment, discipline and the pursuit of excellence, both on the road and in public service.
