Focusing on empowering African youth for the African Continent\u2019s prosperity will be at the centre stage when the African Union (AU) specialised agency-the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM): African Governance Report 2027 two-day development sessions kick off today, Thursday, August 6, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kwazulu-Natal provincial government as a host has been chosen to partake in one of the two sessions to be convened by the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) in collaboration with the APRM Continental Secretariat under the theme: \u201cYouth in Governance: From Promise to Prosperity<\/strong>\u201d,<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to DPSA\u2019s Acting Deputy Director-General for Government Services Access Improvement (GSAI), Dr Patrick Sokhela, the theme covers the three sub-thematic areas, namely that are realising the Demographic Dividend through Investment in Youth as Human Capital for Development; Youth Leadership in Entrepreneurship, Industry, and the Public Sector and harnessing Youth Tech Innovation for E-Governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Five Sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The first session (Session One) of the African Governance Report 2027: Country Institutional Consultations <\/strong>will focus on APRM Review process in South Africa and this will be done with the strategic objective to provide an overview of the APRM process in South Africa, including the country’s review journey, governance structures and arrangements for implementing the African Governance Report (AGR) 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session Two:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The objective of the second session will be centred on introducing the African Governance Report (AGR 2027), including its purpose, thematic focus, expected outputs and implementation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session Three: <\/strong> Institutional Assessment Framework and Institutional Identification<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The objective of this session will be to introduce the institutional assessment approach for the African Governance Report (AGR) 2027, including the institutional assessment framework and the criteria for identifying institutions to participate in the national consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session Four: <\/strong> AGR 2027 Assessment Methodology and Consultation Planning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This session will be focusing on familiarising participants with the AGR 2027 analytical framework and qualitative data collection methodology, and to agree on the implementation arrangements for the national institutional consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session Five: Plenary Discussion, Validation and Way Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The objective will be to validate the institutional consultation approach, confirm implementation arrangements, and agree on the way forward for the African Governance Report (AGR) 2027 in-country institutional consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The APRM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The APRM was initiated in 2002 but was established in 2003 by the AU in the framework of the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa\u2019s Development (NEPAD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The APRM is a specialised agency of the AU, and it serves as a platform or a tool to share experiences and reinforcing best practices towards political stability, accelerated economic growth and regional and continental integration as well as sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Member countries within the APRM undertake self-monitoring in all aspects of their governance and socio-economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The AU stakeholders participate in the self-assessment of all branches of government \u2013 executive, legislative and judicial as well as the private sector, civil society and the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Set up by the AU as a voluntary governance self-monitoring system within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa\u2019s Development (NEPAD), the APRM originated and is \u2018owned\u2019 by African countries to provide opportunity for civil society participation and public dialogue on governance issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The review process includes country self-assessments based on a questionnaire, expert review teams, and on-site visits by expert review teams who consult with government, private sector and civil society representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Focusing on empowering African youth for the African Continent\u2019s prosperity will be at the centre stage when the African Union (AU) specialised agency-the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM): African Governance Report 2027 two-day development sessions kick off today, Thursday, August 6, 2026.
