Today, 4 April 2024, the Deputy Minister for the Public Service and Administration (MPSA), Dr Chana Pilane-Majake, paid a surprise visit to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) offices in Pretoria, Gauteng.<\/p>\n
The MPSA is responsible for setting norms and standards in the Public Sector, including those of agencies such as the RTMC, which falls under the Department of Transport.<\/p>\n
“In addition to developing policies, the mandate of the MPSA also requires us to engage with service users and stakeholders to monitor service performance in line with the policies and prescripts,” said the Deputy Minister.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister’s unannounced visit sought to assess the performance of the Centurion office and observed several operational areas. These included determining how well the national office was operating, whether the public was treated promptly and professionally, how long the lines were, and whether there were any backlogs.<\/p>\n
After observing the working of the RTMC offices, the Deputy Minister concluded that the operations were acceptable. She noted the short client queues, which indicated how managing the queues and the public’s direction to the appropriate service points were effective. Complaints were received about a lack of available workers and a restricted budget.<\/p>\n
During the unannounced visit, Dr Pilane-Majake also took the opportunity to engage with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RTMC, Advocate Makhosini Msibi, who gave her an overview of the entity’s work.<\/p>\n
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) commenced its operations in April 2005 to pool power and resources to eliminate the fragmentation of responsibilities for all aspects of road traffic management across the various levels of government in South Africa.<\/p>\n\r\n
