The government is currently reviewing its recruitment processes to ensure that they are merit-based, inclusive, and transparent.<\/p>\n
Public Service and Administration Director-General, Ms Yoliswa Makhasi, made this announcement during a two-day retreat (13 and 14 July 2023) on the professionalization of the public service at Muldersdrift west of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
Ms Makhasi emphasized the need for centralization in certain aspects of the recruitment process, as decentralization has created challenges in certain areas.<\/p>\n
She also stated that all current Director-Generals have been appointed based on merit, and the government is working towards stabilizing the political administration interface.<\/p>\n
The government has submitted two Bills, the Public Service Amendment Bill and the Public Administration Amendment Bill, to Parliament, with the aim of completing the process by March 31, 2024.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the government is reviewing all determinations and directives issued in terms of the Public Service Act to align them with the professionalization framework.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aim is to reduce red tape, particularly in HR, so that officials can focus on strategic HR work,\u201d Ms Makhasi said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the government is reviewing minimum entry requirements for Senior Management Services and the competency assessment tool for managers.<\/p>\n
