{"id":2475,"date":"2022-09-27T15:38:34","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T13:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wordpress\/\/?p=2475"},"modified":"2022-09-27T15:38:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T13:38:34","slug":"sa-remains-committed-to-aprm-ideals-min-nxesi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dpsa.gov.za\/thepublicservant\/2022\/09\/27\/sa-remains-committed-to-aprm-ideals-min-nxesi\/","title":{"rendered":"SA remains committed to APRM ideals-Min Nxesi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa remains committed to the ideals of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) (APRM) says Acting Public Service and Administration Minister, Mr Thulas Nxesi.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the APRM\u2019s National Governing Council strategic planning session recently, Minister Nxesi said the recommendations of the APR Panel of Eminent Persons falls within the ambit of what South Africa\u2019s Medium Term Strategic Framework is already entrusted with.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed government\u2019s gratitude to the Country Review Mission for the professional manner in which they conducted South Africa\u2019s 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Generation Country Review; the APRM Continental Secretariat for their technical support and coordination with the National APRM Structures through the deployment of the Country Coordinator for South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>December 2021, signalled South Africa\u2019s renewal of its commitment to the ideals of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), thus continuing to open itself to the process of peer review, learning and sharing best practices with its counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth Africa consequently welcomed the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Generation Country Review Report (CRR),\u201d the Minister said, adding that the country remains committed to its journey of continual improvement by building on the baseline set out in the Country\u2019s Self-Assessment Report (CSAR) of 2006 and the Base Review Report of 2007, and to align implementation of the recommendations within its key planning and development frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will help in building complementarity with other laws and policies implemented by the government when reporting in terms of other planning and development frameworks and thus reflect the interrelatedness of South Africa\u2019s progress reports in response to continental and international obligations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChapter 14 of the 25 Year South African Government Review (1994 \u2013 2019) is titled: \u201cBuilding a Better Africa and the World\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt specifically alludes to South Africa\u2019s adoption of the \u2018African Agenda\u2019 with a dual focus on strengthening institutional frameworks that support the renewal process and developing this policy agenda through the instruments such as the New Partnership for Africa&#8217;s Development (NEPAD) and the APRM,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Acting Minister said a cursory reading of South Africa\u2019s 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Generation Country Review Report (CRR) clearly shows a substantive convergence between the CSAR and CRR reports.<\/p>\n<p>This he said, indicates that the observations and findings of the Country Review Mission (CRM) largely align with what the CSAR had highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>In February earlier this year, at the conclusion of South Africa\u2019s Chairship of the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government, President Cyril Ramaphosa said: \u201cI wish to reaffirm South African\u2019s commitment to the APRM and its mission which contributes to improving governance of our beautiful continent and its people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The APRM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The APRM was initiated in 2002, but was established in 2003 by the African Union (AU) in the framework of the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa\u2019s Development (NEPAD).<\/p>\n<p>The APRM is a specialised agency of the AU and it serves as a platform or a tool to share experiences and reinforcing best practices towards political stability, accelerated economic growth and regional and continental integration as well as sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>Member countries within the APRM undertake self-monitoring in all aspects of their governance and socio-economic development.<\/p>\n<p>The AU stakeholders participate in the self-assessment of all branches of government \u2013 executive, legislative and judicial as well as the private sector, civil society and the media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa remains committed to the ideals of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) (APRM) says Acting Public Service and Administration Minister, Mr Thulas Nxesi.
