Background

The Ministrer for Public Service and Administration, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, officially opened the Public Service Employee Health and Wellness Indaba which was held at from the 9-13 October 2205 at the Durban International convention Centre. This was teh 5th indaba convened by the DPSA.

The objectives of the Indaba are

  • to review and finalize the draft Public Service employee health and wellness guidelines
  • to review and strengthen the implementation of the HIV and AIDS guidelines
  • to launch the expanded Soul city communication strategy and the best practice document
  • to present for adoption the new slogan for the programme
  • to considder ways of strenthening implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the programme

It is expected that international experts will address delegates at the Indaba on issues relating to development of guidelines on management of employee health and wellness in the public service. It is also envisaged that the Indaba will afford the national experts to collaborate with their international experts thereby contributing to the development of science in the country.

The Public Service is, through the current process, leading the way in the management of employee health and wellness at such a broad level. Through Indaba, there is signficant capacity building, peer support as well as peer review platforms which have contributed positively towards the implementation of the Minimum Standards for Managing HIV and AIDS in the Public Service as outlined in the Public Service Regulations.
