Public Service Women Management Week

Background

The Minister for Public Service & Administration launched the Head of Department’s 8 -Principle Action Plan for Promoting Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (8-principle action plan) was in 2007 to accelerate progress towards the advancement of women and achievement of gender transformation in the public service. The 8–principle action plan was further institutionalised for implementation in the public service. All government departments are expected to integrate these principles into their programmes and action plans for implementation.

Furthermore, the DPSA institutionalized the Public Service Women Management Week (PSWMW) as a strategy to enable departments to assess progress made in implementation of the 8-principle action plan. The DGs / HODs of all national and provincial government departments are expected to host the PSWMW meeting to assess progress made in advancing women empowerment & achieving gender equality in their departments.

Purpose

The Public Service Women Management Week must be hosted to assess progress made in the implementation of the Head of Department’s 8 Principles Action Plan for Promoting Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality in the Public Service by departments.

Who must host PSWMW meeting

All national & provincial government departments

Targeted audience

Only female senior managers (SMS members) in departments are expected to participate.

Chairperson of meetings

Director - General or Head of Department

Dates for hosting of meetings

Any day between 26 - 30 August 2013

Due date for reporting

On or before the 31st October 2013
