The Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Collin Chabane will launch Public Service Month on Sunday, 31 August 2014 at Maponya Mall in Soweto.
The Minister will be joined by the Mayor of Johannesburg, Mr Parks Tau, the Premier of Gauteng, Mr David Makhura as well as senior officials from the Departments of Home Affairs, Labour, NYDA, Transport and Finance.
Public Service Month puts emphasis on improving the way public servants work in the quest to deliver quality services to the citizens. It is an annual service delivery initiative that seeks to instil and rebuild good ethics, morale and pride in public servants.
Maponya Mall is home to the first Urban Mall Thusong Service Centre, a one stop shop for various essential services provided by government through the departments of Labour, Home Affairs, NYDA, Transport and Finance. Recognising the need to take services closer to where people live, government adopted the concept of Urban Mall Thusong Service Centres, with a vision to build many more such as the one at Maponya Mall.
