Date.: 24 Apr 2013

Mrs J M Maluleke (ANC) to ask the Minister for the Public Service and Administration:

REPLY

Hounourable member I need to emphasize that Community Development Workers are central to the implementation of Government programmes as well as help bridge the gap between Government and communities. We intend to increase the tools of trade available to them and encourage them to undertake regular door to door visits to identify community needs. CDWs are positioned to mobilize volunteers on service delivery improvement forums. Finally, they will serve as a conduit to communicate Government programmes. We recently held a national CDW Indaba addressed by the President wherein our goal was to revitilise the CDW programme, to empower CDWs with insights into Government programmes and how they could undertake advocacy programmes.
