The Inaugural Annual GEMS Symposium

Theme: Reaping the benefits of access to quality health care

Background & purpose

The Government Employees Medical Scheme will be hosting its inaugural Annual Symposium on 04 June 2008 in Cape Town. The event will focus on the Scheme's objective of delivering affordable healthcare benefits to public service employees and the Symposium will be used to foster synergies between the Scheme's health risk practices and the health and wellness programmes implemented by departments within the public service.

Delegates attending the Symposium can also look forward to gaining insight into the opinions of Prof Richard Levin the Chairperson of GEMS, Prof Gary Maartens from the Clinical Pharmacology division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Prof Bongani Mayosi, also from the Department of Medicine at UCT, Deputy Director-Generals responsible for Health and Wellness and Compensation Management at the DPSA and Dr D Baard from the Soma iNitiative.
